The Caterpillar Tree

A maple leafThe Caterpillar Tree was a very large tree in Deacon Ralph Jones’ front yard. He lived next door to Tibby.

Matter of fact, that tree grew from a post Deacon Jones had put in yard. Now we can't recall the actual type of tree it was, but there it was. And in the spring, well, it was always covered with hundreds of caterpillar. Not sure when they came or why they stayed, suffice it to say that as a child in Africville in the '60s, you knew what it was and where it was when someone said "see you near the Caterpillar Tree."
